Buying curtains online is a great idea! Simply grab a tape measure, measure your window then jump onto our website and choose a curtain. All that’s left is to sit back and relax while we deliver your new curtains directly to your door. However, as simple as the process is, there is always a chance you might overlook something so we’ve made a simple list of things to think about when buying curtains online.
A suitable length for your curtain might depend on the location of the window and any furniture that might be in its way. For example, a curtain over a window above a bed might need to be shorter to allow easier movement when you want to open and close the curtain. Alternatively, if you have a short window, you may want your curtain to be long enough to reach the floor to help reduce cold air entering the room.
Curtain Fabric Style
Curtain fabrics come in 3 major categories: Blockout, Translucent and Sheer. Need complete privacy and need to block light, then a blockout curtain would be the best choice. Translucent curtains let light in but still provide privacy whereas sheer curtains will allow a clear view through both ways with a little privacy during the day.
Choosing the right curtain fabric for you is an important decision. If children or pets causing a mess are a concern, then a durable easy to clean fabric that is any colour but white would be ideal. If you wish to insulate a room, a thick heavy material would be more suitable.
Rod or Track
If you don’t already have a curtain installed make sure you choose a rod or track that works with your curtains. Remember that eyelet curtains will only work on a pole or curtain rod and not a curtain track. All other special header types including our pencil pleat curtains will need a curtain track unless you have special eyelet hooks.
If you are on a budget or even if you’re not, it’s a great idea to shop around for the best price. Buying curtains online is a great way to find fantastic quality curtains for fantastic prices from the same place the professionals buy them.
Additional Window Coverings
Interested in the idea of curtains but already have blinds fitted to your windows? A great idea is to combine your existing blinds with a curtain to add style and flair to your window. A common method is to only cover the sides of the window rather than investing in a full-sized curtain that would cover the entire window. Combining a bright popsicle curtain colour with a neutral coloured blind will give you fantastic look and the option of easily updating with new curtains in the future.
A common mistake is not getting your window measurements right. This can happen in a few ways: Maybe you misread the tape measure, maybe the tape measure moved a little, maybe you wrote down the measurements wrong or misread the units. To help you measure your window correctly, we have created a fantastic measuring guide with step-by-step instructions for you to follow to make sure the curtains you order are the perfect size for you window.
Curtain Fabric Colour
A photo of curtains is never as good as seeing the real thing. When buying online it’s a great idea to order a sample of the curtain fabric for a close look and feel and even use it to compare with other fabrics or help match walls or other furniture in your home. Sample are cheap and delivered quickly and will guarantee you receive exactly what you expect.
